SQMMI is a model for continuously improving software quality and testing practices and processes.
As an open model, SQMMI is continually developed, updated and adapted to new methodologies, trends, tools and cultures. It encourages community participation in ongoing discussion and collaboration on software quality and testing.
Its ease of understanding and implementation allows advanced software quality concepts to be applied efficiently and at reduced cost.
Since its inception, SQMMI has aimed to be an international certification standard available in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Its collaborative development and updating process, combined with straightforward understanding and implementation, makes this possible without large investments.
With support from its community of contributors, SQMMI also develops and provides artifacts, templates and examples for specific uses to help organizations implement the model and improve software quality.
Implementing the model helps reduce defects in production, contributing to better software quality.
Implementing the model helps you test more effectively. In addition, an assessment can lead to a software testing quality certificate.
Like most quality models, SQMMI consists of levels: five maturity levels designed to support a company’s journey toward better software quality.
Each level has its own practices and requirements, which depend on those of the lower levels. Their characteristics are:
Level 1 – Execution
The organization must demonstrate that it can create test cases and execute them correctly. Defects are recorded and monitored until they are fixed.
Level 2 – Planning
The organization demonstrates that it has a Software Quality Plan and that software quality activities are planned and controlled.
Level 3 – Requirements Management
The organization must demonstrate that it manages software product requirements and uses them as the basis for defining the scope of the quality and testing project for the softwarequality.
Level 4 – Organization
The organization demonstrates that it has clear policies known to everyone. In general, everyone understands how the quality and testing function for software should operate and how projects should be conducted.
Level 5 – Automation and Continuous Improvement
The organization must demonstrate that its processes, or some of them, are automated and that it also automates functional and non-functional tests to continuously improve test execution and its processes.
SQMMI has a highly innovative management model that draws on its consultants, implementation and assessment organizations, and certified companies to improve and modernize the model. Its structure consists of a MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE, a TECHNICAL COMMITTEE, STATE CHAPTERS, STRATEGIC PARTNERS and INSTITUTIONAL PARTNERS.
Management Committee – The Management Committee has permanent members who conceived SQMMI and representatives of CEPEDI, as well as professionals invited specifically to each meeting. It is responsible for all model-related decisions, including technical, operational, management, organizational unit and financial matters.
Technical Committee – The Technical Committee consists of the model’s senior consultants and a CEPEDI technical representative. It may invite certified professionals, accredited companies and recognized software quality experts. Its purpose is to evolve the model, propose organizational and model improvements, and issue technical opinions.
ACerT – Founded in February 2018, ACerT promotes technological specialization and disruptive innovation by sharing knowledge aligned with internationally established professional conduct standards. ACerT is currently Brazil’s largest company offering a diversified range of preparatory courses and certifications.
CBQS – CBQS (Certificadora Brasileira em Qualidade de Software) is maintained by ACerT. It promotes software quality disciplines as a professional specialization and certifies companies at high maturity levels in software testing control. It is responsible for official training and professional certification exams for SQMMI.
SQMMI Chapters – The model expands through state chapters, making it more democratic and participatory and broadening its reach and visibility.
Companies and Consultants – Companies and their consultants are responsible for model assessment, promotion, prospecting, sales, contract closure, invoicing, payment collection and consulting delivery.
Bahia Technology Park – Bahia Technology Park promotes entrepreneurship and scientific, technological and innovative development in Bahia through interaction and knowledge-sharing among science, technology and innovation stakeholders in a collaborative, sustainable environment. Since December 2020, it has been managed by the Association of Companies of Bahia Technology Park (AEPTECBA) under a self-management model involving business, university, government and professional association representatives.
